India Smartphone Shipments Q2 2024 Counterpoint report xiaomi vivo samsung

Counterpoint New Report: The latest report of Counterpoint Research states that India’s smartphone shipments have declined after registering an increase in the first quarter of 2024. In the second quarter of 2024 (April-June), the country’s smartphone shipments declined by 2 percent year-on-year (YoY). There are many reasons for this decline, of which heatwave and slow demand are considered to be the main ones. Xiaomi is at the top in terms of shipments. It has overtaken Vivo. The reason for Xiaomi coming on top is said to be its portfolio. The company is offering devices ranging from entry level smartphones to the premium segment.

Compared to the second quarter of 2023, Xiaomi’s shipment in 2024 (April-June) was 18.9 percent, which was 15 percent during this period last year. Vivo is at number two. Its shipment was 18.8 percent, which was 17.4 percent during this period last year. Samsung is at number three. The company’s shipment is 18.1 percent, which was 18.4 percent during this period last year. Realme and Oppo are fourth and fifth in the list. 20.5 percent of the shipments were in the name of Others, which includes other brands.

Samsung tops the brand value list

Talking about brand value, Samsung is at the top position. It has captured 24.5 percent of the market. The company’s ultra-premium segment has registered a year-on-year growth of 99 percent in this year’s quarter. In terms of brand value, Vivo is at number two and Apple is at number three. Xiaomi is at number four and Oppo is at number five.

77% of total shipments are 5G phones

The report said that 5G smartphone shipments reached 77 percent of the total market share in the second quarter of 2024. The reduction in the prices of 5G smartphones is the main reason for this, which has encouraged people to buy 5G devices.

Poco and Motorola also benefit!

The results of the second quarter of 2024 show that Motorola has seen a year-on-year growth of 88 percent. Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco has registered a year-on-year growth of 318 percent in the 10 to 15 thousand segment. The results are not very good for Realme. Its year-on-year growth is 2 percent.

When it comes to processors used in smartphones, MediaTek is at the forefront. Its market share is 54 percent. Qualcomm is ahead in the premium segment.
