What is BrahMos MA Supersonic Missile testing expected from 2026 range features
What is BrahMos
According to reports, Brahmos is a supersonic cruise missile of India. It is made by Russia and India’s joint venture Brahmos Aerospace. Russian company NPO Mashinostroeniya and the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of the Government of India work together to make the missile. The missile is used by the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army.
BrahMos-NG will now become BrahMos-MA
According to the Eurasian Times report, work on BrahMos-MA has not started yet. Earlier this missile was being developed under the name BrahMos-NG. This development has been going on for many years. Recently, Alexander Maksichev, co-director of BrahMos JV, announced the making of BrahMos-MA.
He said that now we are working on the air-launched version of the missile. We are in the phase of developing working design documentation. If everything goes well, we will start testing the missile within two years. (Statement translated from Russian to English and then to Hindi)
BrahMos-MA Features
According to the report, BrahMos-NG or BrahMos-MA will be a smaller version of the existing BrahMos missile. The range of the new missile is estimated to be 290 kilometers. It will be at least 3 meters shorter and 50 percent lighter than the current version of BrahMos. It will weigh 1206 kilograms, whereas the currently available BrahMos missile weighs about 2500 kilograms.
It will be fitted on Tejas aircraft! It will cause trouble on the enemy
According to the report, BrahMos company CEO Atul Dinkar Rane had announced last year that the new missile would be installed on the LCA Tejas aircraft. However, during development, this missile will first be installed on aircraft manufactured by Russia. Later it will be installed on light combat aircraft made in India. Apart from LCA Tejas, this missile can also be installed on Sukhoi aircraft.
The low weight of BrahMos-MA will also make it capable of being fired from under the sea. If everything goes well, testing of the missile can begin by the year 2026.
