FASTag Rules Change from 1 August, Update Your Account to Avoid Getting blacklisted
Fastag can also be blacklisted for not following the new rules. The aim of this change is to reduce congestion at toll plazas and minimise the time taken for electronic toll payments. A major change in the Fastag rules is the implementation of the Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Under the new rules, Fastag accounts active for five years or more will have to be changed from August 1. Fastag users will have to confirm the date of issue of their account and request the concerned authority to change it. Fastag accounts older than five years will become invalid.
Fastag accounts that are at least three years old will have to undergo KYC process again. Companies providing Fastag service and users can complete this process by October 31. If they do not do so, Fastag accounts will be blacklisted. Another change is to link this account to the vehicle and the owner’s phone number.
From April this year, it was made mandatory to have a Fastag account for one vehicle. This will prevent the use of the same Fastag for multiple vehicles. Along with this, the Fastag account will have to be linked with the vehicle’s registration number and chassis number as well as the phone number of the vehicle owner. To complete this process, you will need to submit photos of the front and side of the vehicle. Along with this, those who buy a new vehicle on or after August 1 will have to update the registration number within three months. The central government has taken some measures to increase the use of Fastag. This will not only prevent irregularities in the collection of toll charges but will also increase convenience for drivers.
